Care My Trip's Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 Guide: Snan Dates, Stays and Travel
Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 has technically already got a start date, 31 October 2026, when the flag goes up. But ask anyone in Nashik and they'll tell you the real mela is August and September 2027. That's when the three big baths happen. It's also peak monsoon, so think wet roads, a swollen Godavari and ghat steps you have to walk on very carefully. Kumbh Mela pilgrims who leave planning till July usually end up 10 km from the river, paying double.
At Care My Trip, we wrote this Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 travel guide because we kept getting the same five questions on the phone. When are the baths? Nashik or Trimbak? Train or flight? Where do we stay? Will it rain? (Yes. It will rain.) So here's everything, in one place.
Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 Dates, Schedule and Key Facts
The Simhastha comes to Nashik once every 12 years, when Guru moves into Simha rashi. Because it's the full 12-year cycle and not a half Kumbh, a lot of people just call it the Maha Kumbh. Last time was 2015. For Kumbh Mela Nashik 2027 the Maharashtra government has already put out the main schedule, which is good news for anyone who likes to plan ahead.
Main Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 dates:
| Date | Event | Where |
|---|---|---|
| 31 October 2026 | Dhwajarohan (flag hoisting), official start | Trimbakeshwar, Ram Kund, Panchavati |
| 29 July 2027 | Nagar Pradakshina | Nashik |
| 2 August 2027 | First Amrit Snan (Ashadh Amavasya) | Ram Kund and Trimbakeshwar |
| 31 August 2027 | Second Amrit Snan (Shravan Amavasya) | Ram Kund and Trimbakeshwar |
| 11 September 2027 | Third Amrit Snan | Ramkund, Nashik |
| 12 September 2027 | Third Amrit Snan | Kushavarta, Trimbakeshwar |
| 24 July 2028 | Flag lowered, official close | Nashik and Trimbakeshwar |
So yes, on paper the Nashik Kumbh Mela goes on for almost two years. In reality the crowds start building in the last week of July and don't really thin out until mid-September. In between the big three there are lots of smaller parvani snan days. Those are honestly the better choice if you're bringing Aai-Baba or small kids.
One small thing. Tithis can shift by a day and the police sometimes change timings at the last minute. Check the official notice about a week before you leave, not a month before.
How Kumbh Mela Crowd Management Will Work
The state is preparing for crores of Kumbh Mela pilgrims across both towns. On Amrit Snan days, Kumbh Mela crowd management basically means three things for you: your car stops outside the city, you walk a fixed one-way route to the ghat, and you wait in a holding area till your batch is let down to the water. It's slow and you can't skip it. Which is exactly why we keep telling people to book a room they can walk from.
Amrit Snan Calendar: Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 Shahi Snan Dates
Quick note on the name. Official notices now say "Amrit Snan". Everybody on WhatsApp still says Shahi Snan. Same bath. People still search for Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 Shahi Snan dates, so we've kept both words here.
2 August 2027, first Amrit Snan. Ashadh Amavasya. This is when the Akharas go into the water for the first time this Kumbh. Very emotional day, very crowded day.
31 August 2027, second Amrit Snan. Shravan Amavasya. Shravan is already the busiest month at Trimbakeshwar temple, every Monday is packed with Shiv bhakts, so on this date Trimbak gets properly jammed.
11 and 12 September 2027, third Amrit Snan. Nashik takes its dip at Ramkund on the 11th. Trimbak goes the next day at Kushavarta. Some families do both and stay an extra night in between.
Here's the thing that makes Nashik different from Haridwar or Prayagraj. The Kumbh is split across two towns. Vaishnava Akharas take their Shahi Snan at Ram Kund Nashik, on the Godavari River in Panchavati. Shaiva Akharas, Naga sadhus included, go to Kushavarta Kund in Trimbakeshwar, close to where the Godavari River actually starts.
Decide your side first, then book. Ramkund if you want the Vaishnava processions and the old-city feel. Trimbak if seeing the Naga sadhus and getting Jyotirlinga darshan on the same morning matters more to you.
The Faith Behind the Nashik Kumbh Mela
The Puranas say that during the Samudra Manthan a few drops of amrit fell at four places, Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik, and that's why the Kumbh rotates between them. A dip during the Kumbh is believed to wash off sins and bring you a little closer to moksha. That belief is the whole point of Kumbh Mela bathing, and it's why you'll see 70-year-olds walking 5 km in the rain for ten minutes in the river on a Shahi Snan morning.
For a lot of families, though, Nashik is really about Ram. According to the Ramayana, Ram, Sita and Lakshman lived in Panchavati for part of their vanvas. Ramkund is where Ram is said to have bathed. Sita Gufa is a tiny cave nearby. Many people who come for the Nashik Kumbh Mela treat it as much as a Ram yatra as a Kumbh trip, and that's fine.
Then there's Trimbakeshwar temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. The Godavari River starts in the Brahmagiri hill just behind the town, and people here call it Dakshin Ganga. Bath near the source, then darshan. For many devotees, that's the trip.
Outside the rituals the mela has its own life. Akhara camps, bhajans going till 1 am, pravachans, langars feeding thousands. By August the whole town turns into one long Nashik pilgrimage, whether you're religious or not.

Ramkund or Trimbak? Where Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 Takes Place
Two places. Nashik city and Trimbakeshwar, roughly 28 to 30 km apart by road.
Nashik City and the Panchavati Ghats
On the Nashik side everything happens around Panchavati, right on the Godavari River, with Ramkund in the middle. The old town around it, the temples, the narrow galis, the phool and puja-samagri market, all becomes mela area. Most Nashik hotels are in the city, so this is the easier base if you're travelling as a family.
Trimbak, the Shaiva Side of the Simhastha
Trimbak is a small temple town up in the hills to the west, built around Trimbakeshwar temple. The Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela has the Shaiva Akhara processions and the Shahi Snan at Kushavarta Kund. Rooms are limited because the town is genuinely small. August here means heavy rain and the Brahmagiri side can stay misty for days at a stretch. Anyone planning for the Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela should pack real rain gear, not a folding umbrella.
Ramkund on the Godavari River
Ramkund is a stone tank built into the Godavari River in Panchavati, and it's the main bathing ghat on the Nashik side. On Amrit Snan days the Vaishnava Akharas go in first, and the public after. On a normal evening the aarti at Ram Kund Nashik is peaceful and worth sitting through. Kumbh Mela bathing goes on here every single day of the mela, not only on the famous dates.
Travel Options: How to Reach Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027
This bit is about how to reach Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027. Keep in mind the main baths fall right in the monsoon, so whatever time Google Maps shows, add some.
Flying In via Mumbai, Pune or Ozar
Nashik's own airport is at Ozar, about 20 km out, but there aren't many flights. Most people fly to Mumbai (around 170 km) or Pune (around 210 km) and take a cab. Mumbai to Nashik is four to five hours on a good day. Kasara ghat in heavy rain is not a good day for Nashik travel.
Trains to Nashik Road
Nashik Road station is 8 to 10 km from Panchavati, and trains come in from Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Bhopal, Nagpur and plenty of other places. From Mumbai it's three to four hours. Railways usually announce Kumbh specials for Kumbh Mela pilgrims nearer the dates. Book the day the window opens. Not the day after.
Buses and Driving on the Mumbai–Agra Highway
Nashik sits on the Mumbai–Agra highway. MSRTC and private buses run from Mumbai, Pune, Aurangabad, Shirdi and Surat. Shirdi is only about 90 km away, and plenty of people add Sai Baba darshan to the same Nashik pilgrimage.
If you're coming for an Amrit Snan, reach a day early. Of all the Kumbh Mela travel tips we give, this is the one people ignore and then regret. Roads get diverted and private cars are parked far outside the city.
Moving Between Nashik and Trimbak on Snan Days
Kumbh Mela transportation is honestly the most tiring part for most Kumbh Mela pilgrims. On big days there are shuttle buses from the outer parking lots, no vehicles near Ramkund, and a lot of walking. MSRTC buses run between Nashik and Trimbak all day, and extra ones are expected for the mela. Normal days, autos and shared jeeps up to Trimbakeshwar temple are easy. On Amrit Snan days, Kumbh Mela transportation between the two towns is full from about 3 am.
Our advice on Kumbh Mela transportation is simple. Don't try to drive into the old city on a Shahi Snan day. Park outside and take the shuttle. Or better, stay walking distance from the ghat.
Picking Your Base: Where to Stay During Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027
Kumbh Mela accommodation in Nashik, and even more in Trimbak, gets booked out months before the Amrit Snans. Care My Trip lists Nashik hotels, homestays, ashrams and camps, so you can pick the kind of stay that actually suits your group. Use this table as a rough guide to where to stay in Nashik during Kumbh Mela 2027.
| Area | Good for | Distance to Ramkund |
|---|---|---|
| Panchavati / Old Nashik | Walking to the ghat | 0–2 km |
| College Road / Gangapur Road | Mid-range and premium hotels | 4–6 km |
| Nashik Road | Train arrivals, budget rooms | 8–10 km |
| Trimbakeshwar town | Kushavarta, Shaiva Akharas, temple | 28–30 km |
| Igatpuri / Shirdi | Longer trips, quieter stays | 45–90 km |
Coming for one Shahi Snan at Ramkund? Then Panchavati or the old city is the most practical answer to where to stay in Nashik during Kumbh Mela 2027. For Trimbak, stay in the town itself or book hotels near Trimbakeshwar along the Nashik road. Families who want a bit more comfort mostly go for College Road or Gangapur Road, where the bigger Nashik hotels are, and take the shuttle in. If the Shaiva snan is your reason for coming, hotels near Trimbakeshwar make the most sense.
Try to book your Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 accommodation three to four months before the August and September baths. We also block Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 accommodation for groups, bhajan mandals, temple trusts, and those big family trips where 20 people are coming and three are "still checking".
Whichever kind of stay you go with, every Care My Trip booking comes with real photos, the actual distance to the ghat, and a number that someone answers.
City Hotels, From Lodges to Business Stays
When people ask us for a hotel for the Kumbh, they usually want one of three things. Close to Ramkund. Comfortable for parents. Or cheap. Nashik hotels go from basic lodges near Nashik Road station to business hotels on College Road and Gangapur Road, plus a few vineyard resorts out of town. The Care My Trip team checks all our Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 hotels before listing them, and we tell you the real distance to Ramkund. A few Nashik hotels will even do early chai or breakfast for the dawn snan if you ask the night before. Good hotels close to Ram Kund Nashik are limited though, so ask early.
Small Lodges and Hotels Near Trimbakeshwar
There aren't many hotels near Trimbakeshwar. Most are small guesthouses and lodges you can walk from to the temple and Kushavarta. For the Shaiva Shahi Snan they go first, always. If Trimbak is your plan, book hotels near Trimbakeshwar before you book anything else, including your train.
Stays for a Tight Budget
Budget Kumbh Mela accommodation is there if you're early. Think lodges around Nashik Road, dormitories, and simple Kumbh Mela accommodation run by local trusts and samaj bhavans. Tent cities are also expected near the mela area. Nothing fancy. Clean enough, and close to a bus stop.
Premium Hotels, Resorts and Villas
At the top end, Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 hotels include business hotels, vineyard resorts and a few private villas. Good for senior citizens, families with small kids, and NRI guests who want a car and driver for the whole trip. Some will also set up a day trip to Trimbakeshwar temple for you.
Living With a Local Family: Homestays
A homestay is a room in a local family's house, mostly in Panchavati, Gangapur Road or the older lanes near the Godavari River. It suits Kumbh Mela pilgrims who'd rather eat home-cooked Maharashtrian food (think pohe in the morning, varan-bhaat at night) and have someone around who knows which roads are closing tomorrow. It's cheaper than most hotels too. Each house only has two or three rooms, so they go fast. Care My Trip lists a handful of homestays our team has actually visited, and families who want a quieter Kumbh Mela accommodation option keep coming back to them.
Tent Cities and Mela Camps
The administration and private operators set up tent cities for Kumbh Mela pilgrims during the Simhastha. These camps usually come with proper beds, blankets, charging points, shared or attached bathrooms with hot water, and veg food. Since the big baths are in the monsoon, ask whether the camp has raised flooring and covered walkways. Seriously, ask. The camps we list are chosen with exactly that in mind.

Want more comfort? Luxury camps have Swiss cottage tents with attached bathrooms, good beds, a dining hall and a help desk for ghat visits and Trimbakeshwar temple darshan. Tents are kept few, so it doesn't feel like a crowded campus. Care My Trip's luxury camps can also be booked as a package with Kumbh Mela transportation to Ram Kund Nashik and Trimbakeshwar temple included.

Simple Ashrams and Dharamshalas Near the Ghats
Plenty of pilgrims prefer ashrams and dharamshalas, either in Panchavati near the Godavari River or in Trimbak close to Trimbakeshwar temple. Simple, cheap, near the ghats. Some have fixed gate timings and a daily routine, so ask before you book. You can book directly or through Care My Trip.
What to See Between Snans at Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027
Got a free day between baths? These are the Nashik tourist attractions our guests end up going to most. All of them are close, and all fit easily into a Nashik pilgrimage.
Darshan at Trimbakeshwar Temple
Trimbakeshwar temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas, built in black stone. Inside, the lingam has three small faces for Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. During the mela the darshan line can take hours, so be there at opening time. Also check the dress code for the inner sanctum before you go, men are sometimes asked to wear a dhoti.
Evening Aarti at Ramkund
Even if you do your snan at Trimbak, come to Ram Kund Nashik one evening for the aarti. Diyas floating off down the Godavari River, bells from the Panchavati temples, people just sitting on the steps. Totally different mood from a Shahi Snan morning.
Walking Through Panchavati
Panchavati takes its name from five old banyan trees, and it's where Ram is believed to have stayed during the exile. Kalaram temple and Kapaleshwar temple are both right here. On foot, this is the nicest bit of Nashik travel, and it's only a few minutes from Ram Kund Nashik.
The Small Cave of Sita Gufa
A tiny cave in Panchavati linked with Sita. The entrance is narrow and you go down a few steps into a tight space, so if closed spaces make you uneasy, maybe skip it. Takes ten minutes. Most families on a Nashik pilgrimage do it anyway.
If you've got more time, other Nashik tourist attractions worth a look are the Pandavleni caves, Someshwar waterfall (best in the monsoon, actually), the vineyards for the family members who didn't come for the Kumbh, and Shirdi.
Practical Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 Travel Tips From Our Team
These Kumbh Mela travel tips come from problems we've watched pilgrims run into, again and again. Think of them as the practical side of Nashik travel during the mela.
Monsoon Packing List
A raincoat or poncho, because an umbrella is useless in a crowd. Quick-dry clothes and one extra set for after the snan. A small towel. Slippers with real grip (the ghat steps are like soap when wet). Your regular medicines, a small first-aid kit, a power bank, a photocopy of your ID. And a zip-lock pouch for your phone. Of all our Kumbh Mela travel tips, this one saves the most phones.
Staying Safe at the Ghats
Kumbh Mela bathing in the monsoon needs care. After a heavy spell of rain the Godavari River can rise quickly and run fast. Bathe only at ghats the administration has opened. Hold the chains. Do what the water police and lifeguards say, they know the river. Keep kids right next to you, especially at Ram Kund Nashik on Shahi Snan days. Before you step into any crowd, agree on a meeting point, a temple gate, a big hoarding, something nobody can miss. Money and phone go in an inside zip pocket.
Handling the Snan-Day Rush
Kumbh Mela crowd management works only when pilgrims go along with it. Reach a day before any Amrit Snan. Go down to the ghat very early, or wait for the afternoon when it eases up. Stick to the marked route even when it looks longer, because Kumbh Mela crowd management depends on everyone doing exactly that. With elderly parents, pick a regular parvani snan day over a Shahi Snan. Same Godavari River, a fraction of the people.
Why Early Booking Pays Off
This turns up in every list of Kumbh Mela travel tips, and for good reason. Rooms near Ramkund and in Trimbak go first for the August and September baths, and rates climb every week. Book your Kumbh Mela accommodation the day your date is fixed. You'll get better cancellation terms too, and a better shot at Nashik hotels near the ghats.
We'll keep this Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027 travel guide updated as details on routes, passes and facilities come out.
