Day 4Syabrubesi / Timure → Kerung (Border Crossing, 40 km, 3-4 hrs approx.) — Enter Tibet
After breakfast, proceed towards the Nepal-Tibet border for immigration and customs formalities. This day involves careful documentation, luggage handling, and a phased crossing process, so patience and discipline are essential. Once immigration procedures are completed, enter Tibet and continue by vehicle to Kerung, a beautiful high-altitude Tibetan town surrounded by barren mountains and dramatic valleys.
Kerung serves as the first major acclimatization point inside Tibet. The air here is thinner, and pilgrims may begin feeling the effects of altitude, which is why the day’s movement remains controlled. After hotel check-in, relax, hydrate, and avoid unnecessary exertion. Dinner will be served early so that everyone can rest and help the body adapt to the new altitude environment.

Day 5Acclimatization Day at Kerung
Today is reserved entirely for acclimatization, one of the most important parts of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. A successful Yatra depends not only on devotion but also on proper physical adaptation to high altitude. After breakfast, pilgrims may take a short guided walk around Kerung town or nearby open area to help the body adjust gradually. Slow walking, deep breathing, hydration, and rest are strongly advised.
The rest of the day is kept light and flexible. The group leader and support staff will monitor health conditions, discuss AMS (Altitude Mountain Sickness) symptoms, and guide pilgrims on what to eat, how to sleep, and how to manage energy during the upcoming days. Spend the evening quietly, avoid overexertion, and mentally prepare for the spectacular Tibetan plateau drive ahead. Dinner and overnight stay in Kerung.

This route introduces pilgrims to the vastness of Tibet, where silence and scale themselves feel meditative.
En route, the group crosses high passes and barren mountain stretches, with occasional sightings of grazing yaks, prayer-flagged ridges, and distant snow peaks. Day 8Mansarovar Puja → Darchen (40 km, 1-2 hrs) — Spiritual Rituals & Base for Parikrama
Wake up early to witness the spiritually charged atmosphere of Lake Mansarovar in the soft morning light. This is the ideal time for holy bath or symbolic स्नान, depending on health, weather, and local guidance. Many pilgrims choose to perform puja, meditation, Rudrabhishek sankalp, or simple silent prayer on the lake’s banks. Mansarovar is believed to cleanse lifetimes of karmic burdens, and spending time here is among the most meaningful moments of the Yatra.
After breakfast and rituals, drive to Darchen, the base camp town for Mount Kailash Parikrama. Darchen is where final preparations for the Kora are made. Day 9Darchen → Yama Dwar → Dirapuk (12 km trek, 5-7 hrs) — Kailash Parikrama Begins
Today marks the beginning of the sacred Kailash Parikrama, one of the most revered spiritual walks in the world. After breakfast, drive a short distance to Yama Dwar, the ceremonial gateway from where the Kora begins. Pilgrims offer prayers here before stepping into the sacred circuit around Mount Kailash. The trail from Yama Dwar to Dirapuk is relatively gradual compared to the next day, but the emotional and spiritual energy of walking in the shadow of Kailash makes it deeply moving.
The path follows the Lha Chu valley and offers increasingly magnificent views of Mount Kailash, especially its majestic North Face as you approach Dirapuk. The mountain appears closer and more powerful with every step, creating an experience that is difficult to describe in words. Day 10Dirapuk → Dolma La Pass → Zuthulpuk (22 km trek, 9-11 hrs) — Most Challenging & Sacred Day
Today is the most physically demanding yet spiritually significant day of the entire Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Begin very early in the morning, as the route involves crossing Dolma La Pass at approximately 5,630 meters. The ascent is steep, and weather conditions can change quickly, so steady walking, controlled breathing, and mental focus are essential. This day is often described as a symbolic death-and-rebirth journey by devotees undertaking the Parikrama.
Along the route, pilgrims will pass Shiva Sthal, where many offer symbolic surrender of ego and past karmas, and later see the sacred Gauri Kund below the pass, associated with Goddess Parvati. After crossing Dolma La, the descent is steep and rocky before the trail gradually eases out towards Zuthulpuk. The long day tests endurance, but it is also considered the most spiritually purifying section of the Kora. Arrive by evening at Zuthulpuk, associated with Milarepa’s meditation cave traditions. Dinner and overnight stay in basic accommodation.

Many pilgrims walk this stretch with a deep sense of gratitude, silence, and emotional completion, knowing they have circumambulated the holiest mountain in the spiritual imagination of India, Tibet, and beyond.
After completing the trek, board the vehicle and proceed to Darchen, where the overland return journey begins. After regrouping and lunch arrangements, continue driving back to Saga. Though the road section is long, the heart remains full from the successful completion of the Parikrama. Arrive in Saga by evening, check in, have dinner, and take well-deserved rest after the most important phase of the Yatra.
