The Kedarnath Yatra from Haridwar takes 4 days and 3 nights by road, Haridwar back to Haridwar, with a night at Kedarnath itself. How to reach Haridwar
- By road from Delhi: about 220 km.
- By train: Haridwar Junction is on the main line from Delhi; the Shatabdi takes roughly four to five hours.
- By air: the nearest airport is Jolly Grant in Dehradun, around 35 km from Haridwar. The package can start from Dehradun instead.

The night at Kedarnath gives you an unhurried darshan, the evening aarti and Bhim Shila, the boulder that shielded the temple in 2013, before a fresh descent next morning. Day 3 is kept at the base as a buffer for weather or helicopter delays. If you come down early, you can visit Triyugi Narayan, where Shiva and Parvati are said to have married (extra charge).
The trek: walk, pony, palki or helicopter
- On foot: about 21 km one way from Gaurikund, climbing from about 6,500 feet to the temple at 11,760 feet. Details are in the Kedarnath trek guide.
- Pony, palki or pithu: hired at Gaurikund and paid directly. Not included in the package.
- Helicopter: flies from the helipads in the Guptkashi, Phata and Sitapur area. Tickets are booked separately and depend on availability and weather.

Choosing a hotel grade
- For four travellers in a Swift Dzire: Standard costs ₹12,500 per person, Deluxe ₹15,500, Luxury ₹17,900 and Premium ₹19,500.
- For two travellers: from ₹18,000 per person in Standard, because two people share the whole car.
- Every grade uses a basic dormitory at Kedarnath. No better rooms are available at the shrine, so a higher grade only changes the two nights at Guptkashi or Sitapur.
When to go
The Kedarnath opening date is announced each spring, and the temple closes for winter around Diwali. The most comfortable months are May to June and September to October. July and August are monsoon months: landslides and road closures make the trek and the road unpredictable. In September and October, nights at Kedarnath can drop below freezing. Before you book
- Registration is mandatory. Every pilgrim must register with the Uttarakhand government; see how to register. Carry the registration and a photo ID.
- Budget for extras: 5% GST, the government taxi from Sonprayag to Gaurikund, pony or palki charges, and helicopter tickets if you fly.
- Small cars suit the road. The road from Rudraprayag to Guptkashi and Phata suits small vehicles, and the stretch to Gaurikund is rough.
- Pack warm layers even in May, and carry only essentials up the trek.
- No AC in the hills. Air conditioning runs only on the plains, and only when confirmed in writing in advance.
