Overview

The Harsil by Helicopter Tour is a three day trip from Dehradun to Harsil in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarkashi district. After pickup at Dehradun airport or railway station, you fly about 35 minutes from Sahastradhara helipad and continue by road through Uttarkashi, with a visit to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and a stop at the Gangnani hot spring, to Harsil. Itinerary

Day 1

Dehradun to Harsil by Helicopter and Road

Arrive at Dehradun airport or railway station, where our representative meets you and transfers you to Sahastradhara helipad for the flight over green valleys and snow covered peaks.

Arrive at Dehradun airport or railway station, where our representative meets you and transfers you to Sahastradhara helipad for the flight over green valleys and snow covered peaks. On landing, our assistant meets you for the drive to Uttarkashi on the banks of the Bhagirathi river, where you visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. On the way to Harsil, stop for a dip in the natural hot spring at Gangnani. After arriving in Harsil, take an evening walk to Bagori village, known for its small wooden houses and Bhotia culture. Dinner and overnight stay in Harsil.

Day 2

Gartang Gali, Nelong Valley and Gangotri Darshan

Leave Harsil early in the morning for Gartang Gali, an old wooden walkway with views of the surrounding gorges and mountains.

Leave Harsil early in the morning for Gartang Gali, an old wooden walkway with views of the surrounding gorges and mountains. From there, continue into the Nelong Valley, a remote area that was once part of the Indo-Tibetan trade route, known for its bare landscape and unusual rock formations. The day continues to Gangotri, one of the four Char Dham shrines, for darshan at the Gangotri Temple dedicated to Goddess Ganga, beside the Bhagirathi river. After darshan, return by the same route to Harsil for dinner and the overnight stay.

Day 3

Lama Top Trek and Return to Dehradun

The last day begins with an early morning trek of about 3 km from Harsil to Lama Top, through pine and deodar forest with views of snow covered peaks and the valleys below.

The last day begins with an early morning trek of about 3 km from Harsil to Lama Top, through pine and deodar forest with views of snow covered peaks and the valleys below. The trek is moderately demanding. After coming down, have breakfast at the hotel, check out and drive to Chinyalisaur for the return helicopter flight to Sahastradhara helipad. From there you are dropped at Dehradun airport or railway station. The tour ends here.

Payment schedule

  • All bookings must be made in advance
  • A deposit of 25% of the total tour cost is required at the time of booking
  • A further 25% is paid 45 days before the tour starts
  • The remaining balance is due 30 days before the tour date
  • Payment is accepted only by net banking to our current account

Cancellation policy

  • Cancellations must be made in writing
  • Cancelling more than 30 days before the tour date receives a full refund
  • Cancelling 15 to 30 days before the tour date carries a cancellation fee of 50%
  • No refund is given for cancellations made on or within 15 days of the tour
  • If the tour is cancelled because of bad weather, you are offered a full refund or the option to reschedule to a later date

  • Distances are approximate and can vary with the route and local conditions; allow extra travel time for weather or unforeseen delays
  • The maximum weight is 80 kg per passenger for safety reasons; passengers over the limit may pay extra weight charges as per the aviation company's policy
  • Each passenger may carry one bag of up to 5 kg and one personal item, and all baggage must be secured and stowed in the helicopter
  • Weapons, explosives, flammable materials, dangerous chemicals, alcohol, drugs and animals are not allowed on the helicopter
  • Children under 2 years are not permitted on helicopter tours

What does the Harsil by Helicopter Tour cost per person?

The rate is INR 38,000 per person for a minimum of 2 persons and INR 32,500 per person for a minimum of 4 or 6 persons. A child with or without a bed is INR 11,500. GST is charged extra, and these rates do not apply on special occasions or in the peak demand season.

How long is the helicopter flight?

The flight from Sahastradhara helipad in Dehradun takes about 35 minutes each way. The rest of the journey to Harsil, about 110 km via Uttarkashi, is by road and takes around 4 hours.

Is the Nelong Valley permit included?

Yes. The Nelong Valley permit is part of the inclusions, along with the visit to Gartang Gali and Gangotri Temple on Day 02.

How much walking is involved?

Day 02 includes a trek of 2 to 3 km around Gartang Gali and the Nelong Valley, and Day 03 starts with a moderately demanding trek of about 3 km to Lama Top through pine and deodar forest.

Is there a weight or baggage limit?

Yes. The maximum weight is 80 kg per passenger, and anyone over the limit may pay extra charges as per the aviation company's policy. Each passenger may carry one bag of up to 5 kg plus one personal item.

What happens if the weather stops the flight?

If the tour is cancelled because of bad weather you are offered a full refund or a later date. If flying is cancelled for weather or operational reasons, you can choose alternate road travel at a revised cost or a full refund of the helicopter portion, with retention charged on the road travel and hotel components.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancelling more than 30 days before the tour date receives a full refund, cancelling 15 to 30 days before carries a 50% fee, and there is no refund on or within 15 days of the tour. Cancellations must be made in writing.
