Magh Mela 2028 is held at Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, from Paush Purnima on 11 January to Maha Shivratri on 23 February 2028. Unlike the Kumbh, it comes every year, in the Hindu month of Magh, on the sands where the Ganga and Yamuna meet.

Where the Magh Mela happens
At Triveni Sangam, Prayagraj, where the Ganga and Yamuna meet and the Saraswati is believed to join them unseen. Boatmen row pilgrims out from the ghats near the Allahabad Fort to a platform of moored boats at the confluence for the holy dip.
Kalpvas: a month on the Sangam
Many families spend the month of Magh as kalpvasis, living in simple tents on the mela ground from Paush Purnima to Maghi Purnima, bathing daily and keeping a vow of prayer and simple food. Visitors usually come for one or two snan days instead.
How to plan the bath
- Avoid the peak if you travel with elders: Mauni Amavasya draws the largest crowds; Basant Panchami and Maghi Purnima are calmer.
- Dress for cold mornings: January mornings on the river are cold and often foggy; carry warm layers and a change of clothes for after the dip.
- Reach a day early: roads into the mela area close on big snan days.
